An Update

I change my mind.  It happens.

I was unhappy with the tone of the old blog so I’ve set all the posts to private except the first and am restarting the whole thing.

I’m currently working at the UofM doing web support while taking correspondence courses in Technical Communications at Simon Fraser University (UofM doesn’t offer it).  These things take up a lot of time and my web-babbling has been reduced quite a bit as a result.  I’m having to schedule time to do web updates, which is just so surreal.  In all honesty, I’m having to schedule everything nowadays, including sleep, reminders to eat, time to write, etc.

Speaking of writing, last year the title story of my MA thesis “The Monk and the Butterfly” was published in Electric City 2 by Prairie Fire.  It is my first traditionally published dead tree (as in “OMG a professional publisher paid me and printed it on paper and everything!”) and I’m quite proud of it.

My story “Tangles” is coming out in the soon-to-be-birthed anthology Tomorrow’s Cthulhu:  Stories at the Dawn of Posthumanity by Broken Eye Books.  It’s due to be released in 12 days and I’m excited.  There’s other things about it that are exciting but I cannot speak of them yet… but they’re exciting!

I also have another story, “A Winter’s Tale” coming out in The Shadow over Portage and Main, which is an anthology project involving a whole pile us from Winnipeg.  Everyone published in it is either an alumni of, or somehow associated with, either the University of Winnipeg or the University of Manitoba (or both), and I know most of the other writers from creative writing courses we’ve taken together.  It’s edited by Keith and Dustin, two people I’ve known for years who I respect a great deal as writers, editors and academics.  The title is a deliberate reference to H. P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow over Innsmouth, which, if you know anything about HPL, is a pretty big hint regarding the tone and feel of the whole thing.  The release date for that is either April 1 or April 20 (we’re not sure which yet) and when it is released there will be a book launch at McNally’s.

I’ve lapsed with my twittering and I’m preparing to do a giant twitter purge in future to make looking at that feed more manageable again, for now, I’m at most lurking with the occasional retweet of something I find funny or announcement that I’ve updated the blog.  In future, I’ll return to having more to say in 140 characters, but for now I’m on a bit of a hiatus from the twittersphere due to being just too damn busy to tweet.

As always, feel free to comment, email, or otherwise contact me about whatever (unless I hate you – but I don’t hate a lot of people so, statistically, you’re probably ok).
